After a wildly successful outing with the Last Of Us back in 2013, the action-adventure survival horror game is back with a sequel which looks to have more intense brutality and gore. People have been waiting for the sequel since its announcement in December 2016. Gloves will be off this E3.It's been a long time coming. In terms of sales, the are already brutalising the competition, but in terms of games - they've finished warming up. Like I've been maintaining for a good few years, Sony takes a couple of years to get the ball rolling on every single generation when it comes to first-party games and after which point they are a force to be reckoned with. We already know about these, but what else? PS4's overwhelming sales success is going to make bigger things happen.įirst-party open-world games. PS3's slow start and numerous issues was a blip in terms of what could have been for developer support, and yet it still got fantastic support from third parties, despite these games being considered "niche".

We're almost guaranteed to see such announcements from Square Enix, Sega and Level-5.

I figure this is the year in which their first-party studios have given clear signs that they are ready to show what they've been working on, and like the era of the glorious PS2 in which new experiences and diversity of games was key and almost essential, where Japanese games were popular among the mainstream. What I personally draw from this, is that Sony's E3 is going to be absolutely huge, if they're willing to concede how big Gamescom could be for them this year. Trying a different format is also not a bad thing, especially considering the sheer amount of gaming events Sony is attending or hosting this year. Meanwhile even though Sony is winning the US, it's something that they MUST keep an eye on to maintain a lead. Microsoft absolutely needs to fight for European marketshare, and even with a strong fight, it's still an almost hopeless fight. Last year's was great and they definitely showed the most fresh, new games out of anyone - we will probably get some smaller announcements in its place, but it's still not the same. I have no problem with Septic's concerns, because I was also surprised to hear this and would like to have seen another great Gamescom keynote from them this year. Just look at how many people will be at Paris Game Week? This year trending will have over 300,000 people in attendance just like this Gsmescom.ĭigitalRaptor 2557d ago (Edited 2557d ago ) We will share more information closer to the time." We are excited about our plans and look forward to sharing some exciting announcements. With the changes this year of E3 taking place a week later and Gamescom taking place earlier, we feel that both PlayStation and the wider industry would benefit from a major news milestone later in the year, during the most important period for gaming. "We’re delighted to announce that we will be hosting an international media briefing at Paris Games Week on 27th October. Just look at Sony's official statement posted by Endless_X and what Sony has to focus on. Just to add some perspective about how close all these shows are and how rabbid some of you guys are.

Plus their Experience event is only focused on Sony themselves. That's 6 major shows/events in 6 1/2 months. Yet here we have Septic, Gangsta Red and everyone else going crazy?! Sony has their own PlayStation event in the fall. There wasn't this big an uproar when Xbox missed 2012 TGS and Gamescom. Want to let us know what's going to happen over the next 8 month's with your Crystal ball? Sony has always spread out their announcements and releases. You guys seem to think you guys know everything.

Sales for PS4 are destroying Xbox in Europe so they're shifting focus. Sony doesn't need to, they can but they have things planned out probably so lets give them the benefit of the doubt. Them having something in Paris makes me think that Quantic Dream may announce their new game since they are a french developer.Īlso Microsoft needs to bring their A game to the European market since they are being soundly trounced. If Media Molecule, Guerilla or any of Sony's European studios announce games at E3 it will give them a bigger presence at Gamescom. They won't have a conference but they are still present on the show floor probably showcasing what they announced at E3. Gamescom & E3 being so close to one another this year gave them a reason to spread their showings. I can understand Sony's thinking in skipping at least the conference. The Playstation is already in the mind share of the majority of Europe especially this year cause of the PS4. Sony has been a huge presence at Gamescom since it first started in 2009, so them missing it for the first time shouldn't be that big a deal.
